This is about to change, with the advent of various new technologies that will add interactivity in a backwards-compatible fashion.

http://broadcastengineering.com/distribution/interactive-video-potential-new-revenue-stream#comments Video Transport Distribution Mobile TV News Wed, 01 May 2013 04:00:00 +0000 102771 at http://broadcastengineering.com Signiant to power accelerated news delivery workflow automation for EBU http://broadcastengineering.com/video-transport/signiant-power-accelerated-news-delivery-workflow-automation-ebu Eurovision's new File Exchange Platform unites 72 EBU members; next-generation solution to facilitate transition from linear satellite feeds to file-based operations for news package delivery.

http://broadcastengineering.com/video-transport/signiant-power-accelerated-news-delivery-workflow-automation-ebu#comments Business Announcements Video Transport Tue, 16 Apr 2013 18:11:00 +0000 99261 at http://broadcastengineering.com Barnfind Technologies debuts Barnone at NAB 2013 http://broadcastengineering.com/blog/barnfind-technologies-debuts-barnone-nab-2013 Barnfind demonstrated its BarnOne, a system that provides up to 32 ports with either 32 X SFPs from various manufacturers offering different capabilities, or a mix with 8 or 16 BNCs or HDMI/ DVI.

BE@NAB

http://broadcastengineering.com/blog/barnfind-technologies-debuts-barnone-nab-2013#comments Business Announcements Shows Video Transport Products BE@NAB Tue, 09 Apr 2013 13:38:00 +0000 102701 at http://broadcastengineering.com The changing role of content delivery networks http://broadcastengineering.com/streaming/changing-role-content-delivery-networks
Andrew Jones

Distributing content to a desktop grows more complex by the year.

The classic definition of a CDN, or content delivery network, is an aggregation of servers dishing out live streams, on-demand content and other files to end users on behalf of various clients. In broadcasting, typical clients range from small radio and television stations to larger broadcast networks and media conglomerates. The CDN’s role in the broadcast space isn’t so much changing but evolving. The now-simple idea of distributing content to a desktop grows more complex by the year. The explosion of mobile streaming and the ever-expanding OTT universe is evidence alone.

http://broadcastengineering.com/streaming/changing-role-content-delivery-networks#comments Encoders Streaming Video Transport Mon, 01 Apr 2013 04:00:00 +0000 92841 at http://broadcastengineering.com The cloud for broadcast: more content for consumers http://broadcastengineering.com/cloud/cloud-broadcast-more-content-consumers
Cloud storage serves the demand for interactive content.
With VOD services, the content is stored on large servers located at remote sites, and the media are streamed to large numbers of independent and perhaps simultaneous (but asynchronous) users. Thus, as more and more devices — particularly handhelds and mobiles — consume multimedia content via streaming (as opposed to traditional “broadcast”) services, content and software capabilities are moving toward off-site remote storage systems.

http://broadcastengineering.com/cloud/cloud-broadcast-more-content-consumers#comments Cloud Streaming Video Transport Mon, 01 Apr 2013 04:00:00 +0000 92871 at http://broadcastengineering.com Yospace to demonstrate content-replacement system at NAB 2013 http://broadcastengineering.com/blog/yospace-demonstrate-content-replacement-system-nab-2013 Being shown for the first time anywhere is the company’s SmoothStreaming support for seamless content replacement.

BE@NAB

http://broadcastengineering.com/blog/yospace-demonstrate-content-replacement-system-nab-2013#comments Streaming Shows Video Transport BE@NAB Fri, 29 Mar 2013 15:49:00 +0000 94001 at http://broadcastengineering.com Net Insight unveils Nimbra video appliance at NAB http://broadcastengineering.com/blog/net-insight-unveils-nimbra-video-appliance-nab The video appliance significantly reduces cost for first-mile connectivity, allowing broadcasters to shift resources from transmission to content creation.

BE@NAB

http://broadcastengineering.com/blog/net-insight-unveils-nimbra-video-appliance-nab#comments Cable & IPTV Shows Video Transport Products BE@NAB Fri, 29 Mar 2013 14:14:00 +0000 93931 at http://broadcastengineering.com Small Tree to showcase ThunderNET at NAB 2013 http://broadcastengineering.com/blog/small-tree-showcase-thundernet-nab-2013 ThunderNET supports 1 Gigabit-Ethernet or 10 Gigabit-Ethernet connectivity to iMac, Mac Mini, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air computers.

BE@NAB

http://broadcastengineering.com/blog/small-tree-showcase-thundernet-nab-2013#comments Video Transport Post-Production BE@NAB Thu, 28 Mar 2013 15:45:00 +0000 93721 at http://broadcastengineering.com Aspera ships enhanced versions of Sync, Console http://broadcastengineering.com/video-transport/aspera-ships-enhanced-versions-sync-console Sync is for high-performance, scalable, asynchronous file replication and synchronization.
