Smooth Streaming, Microsoft’s new adaptive streaming technology, is an exciting advancement that brings us closer to Web-based television-like delivery of HD media content. The underlying technology builds on Microsoft® VC-1 codec components to create multiple pre-defined streams, adding mechanisms to automatically adjust the playback to varying consumer connection speeds, and other network playback challenges, enabling higher-quality streaming media delivery over IP and mobile networks.
