SAN FRANCISCO -- May 2, 2013 -- Wohler Technologies today announced that, at KOBA in the BESCO S.I. booth C421, the company will feature its RadiantGrid Intelligent Media Transformation Platform(TM), version 8.0, which boasts high-impact enhancements including full broadcast-gamut color legalization and high bit depth within native color spaces. Wohler will also showcase the award-winning WohlerCaption(TM) and acclaimed WohlerLoudness(TM) appliances, both of which serve as straightforward, cost-effective solutions for critical challenges facing broadcasters today.
"New capabilities within RadiantGrid version 8.0 tackle two very different and difficult areas of production: gamut legalization and high-bit-depth workflows," said Jhonny Maroun, director, APAC, Wohler Technologies. "Customers from post houses to broadcast facilities across the Asia Pacific market are among the many companies expressing a need for more fluid and efficient video processing pipelines, and we're addressing this demand not only by extending RadiantGrid's 'Detect and Correct' functionality, but also by introducing sophisticated turnkey processing appliances that take the complexity out of key compliance monitoring and processing tasks."
RadiantGrid 8.0 automates broadcast-gamut color legalization within the transcoding workflow. The ability to legalize gamut for broadcast within the NTSC and PAL domains in a file-based workflow ensures quality that, in turn, allows broadcasters to take advantage of transcoding automation with full confidence that content will meet on-air quality requirements.
Further upstream, in preproduction and postproduction processes that demand a much higher fidelity of video, maintaining the native color space and fidelity up to 16-bit is essential for using transcoding tools. RadiantGrid 8.0 makes true archive preservation and film-grade use of transcoding possible with its new 16-bit 4:4:4:4 YUV video support, along with management of frame-level metadata such as field order and anamorphic aspect ratios. All enhancements are available without expensive hardware or software upgrades.
The WohlerCaption appliance, which earned a STAR Award at the 2013 NAB Show, is a turnkey closed-caption translation solution that leverages Wohler's RadiantGrid technology to extract closed captioning from media sources and insert closed captioning back into the transcoded output file. As a result, broadcasters can easily and cost-effectively update content with caption data prior to delivery via traditional broadcast services or on new services and platforms.
WohlerLoudness leverages Linear Acoustic's industry-leading AERO.file technology in a proven solution for file-based loudness correction with built-in upmix and downmix capabilities. Using file-based inspection/correction software, WohlerLoudness allows operators to identify and correct loudness issues at ingest, before they become a problem. The platform performs multipass scaling, loudness range control, and upmixing and downmixing with support for Dolby(R) Digital (AC-3) and Dolby E decoding and encoding, plus a host of codecs for other audio formats. WohlerLoudness also manages ancillary data and advanced audio processing for channel remapping and insertion of new channels into the video/audio process, and it is fully compliant with ITU-R BS.1770 and EBU R128.
